Maps, mobile phones and narratives: posibilities and limitations of locative media
Abstract
In this paper I suggest an approach to the study of locative media (mobile phones, GPS, etc.) based on both formal and conceptual analysis of a set of creative projects and three types of theoretical sources: the definition of the social space, the influence of contemporary art and especially for the purpose of this monographic issue, their roots in the contemporary audiovisual narratives. I will illustrate my ideas with some recent examples of projects based on locative media, in order to identify which are the elements that define and characterize narrative locative projects and which are the possibilities and novelties that these media provide. Keywords
