Submission Preparation Checklist

As part of the submission process, authors are required to check off their submission's compliance with all of the following items, and submissions may be returned to authors that do not adhere to these guidelines.
  • The manuscript is unpublished and has not been submitted for publication elsewhere.
  • The submitted file is in Microsoft Word, OpenOffice or RTF format.
    The text must have single line spacing, a 12 point font, and must use cursive rather than underline (except for URLs). All illustrations, figures and tables must be positioned correctly, and not at the end of the text.
  • The article meets all requirements set in the Author Guidelines page in "About the Journal".

Author Guidelines

Originality of the work, languages of publication and evaluation process

Any work proposed for publication in Anàlisi should pay attention to the editorial line and follow the publishing guidelines set out in this section.

The journal accepts originals in Catalan, Spanish and English.

Anàlisi only publishes original work: any articles sent should not have been published beforehand or be undergoing assessment by any other journal. Very exceptionally, the Editorial Committee may recommend the translation of an article disseminated in another publication owing to its relevance.

After evaluation by the Publishing Committee, all articles received go through an blind peer review process by assessors appointed by the Editorial Committee.

Anàlisi admits academic essays whenever imply rigorous theoretical reflections of professors of recognized prestige and wide trajectory that contribute new knowledge to the analysis of the social reality and the communicative panorama. The extension can range between 4,000 and 6,000 words. The text must be well-founded, justified and referenced. Like all the other papers, it will be supervised by blind evaluation.

Blind peer review process

Anàlisi believes in a blind review process of the papers. The evaluation process shall be directed towards proposals for improvements or modifications that unambiguously help authors to improve their works, but shall never involve sanctions or impracticable revision proposals.

We see the review process as an dialogue between authors and reviewers, the sole purpose of which should be the improvement of the paper, in order to disseminate precise knowledge that promotes discussion and knowledge exchange in the scientific community.

Stages in the process of evaluating a paper

The time required to perform the evaluation process will be approximately three months

  1. Stage 1: sending of the original via the journal’s own platform. All the registration fields and steps must be completed. Then use the log in system to proceed.

  2. Stage 2: acceptance for the evaluation process by the journal’s Publishing Board. This stage can have two outcomes: (1) the Publishing Board may decline to publish the paper if it does not meet the journal’s criteria regarding subject matter and format; or (2) the Publishing Board begins the process of evaluation by external reviewers.

  3. Stage 3: notification to the author of the result of stage 2.

  4. Stage 4: evaluation of the original by external reviewers over a period of approximately 20 days.

  5. Stage 5: notification to the journal management of the evaluation process result, from the reviewers.

  6. Stage 6: notification to the author of the result of the evaluation.

The author shall receive a qualitative review with advice and comments that help them to improve their paper, as well as a quantitative review.

In order to improve their evaluation score, the author may resubmit their paper as many times as they see fit, provided it has passed the first stage of the review process involving the Publishing Board.

Formal criteria

All articles that are sent to the Editorial Committee of Anàlisi for consideration must include the following information:

  • Title.

  • Title in Spanish or Catalan. 

  • ORCID identifier, if available. Anàlisi. Quaderns de Comunicació i Cultura, recommends authors to register in in order to obtain an ORCID identifier.

  • Abstract (of 200-300 words) with the essential aspects and results of the work.

  • Abstract in Spanish.

  • Keywords (between 4 and 6).

  • Keywords (between 4 and 6) in English if this is not the original language.

  • Body of the article, organised in sections and subsections.

  • Bibliography

Originals should be submitted in electronic file format and may not under any circumstances exceed 6,000 words, including the body of the article, abstracts, notes and bibliography.

The bibliography must be acceptable and up-to-date. It is recommended that the authors mentioned would be approximately twenty, most of them from recent years and come from university academic journals, part of them in English.

It is recommended that self-citations [quotes from the author of the article] or self-references [citations to other articles published in the same journal] should not exceed 20% of the total.

Articles may include notes, providing they are essential, which should be placed at the foot of the page.

Quotes should be inserted in the text following the Harvard or parenthetical system, e.g. (Sartori, 1998: 123). Letters (a, b, c...) should be used to distinguish different work by the same author and year.

Graphs, tables and pictures that are interspersed in the text should also be sent in a separate file. These should be numbered and have a caption that identifies the content. We recommend that they should be restricted to no more than ten. Tables should be numbered using Roman numerals (Table I) and graphs with Arabic figures (Figure 1).

Bibliographical references

It is compulsory that the author checks all article references against CrossRef database through the Simple Text Query Service in order to include al existing Digital Object Identifiers (DOI).

These should also be obligatorily presented following the ISO 690 standard (INTERNATIONAL STANDARD ORGANIZATION), as shown in the following examples (check also our latest papers published for more examples of Bibliographical references)

The purpose of this section is to help spread news of new lines of study and of progress made by researchers who have recently completed their doctorates, through reviews of the defended theses. The reviews may be sent by the author of the thesis or by a member of the publication’s Publishing Board or Editorial Board, which will post notifications on doctoral theses recently published openly in any of the existing institutional repositories.

The publication of reviews will not be subject to any peer review processes, indexing, or criteria relating to the publication frequency of the journal, as they will be updated on the web site periodically.

Privacy Statement

Use of the UAB's website and any of the services it offers implies full acceptance of the terms stipulated by the following data protection policy.

1. Data Collection and Consent

In compliance with the European Union’s General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), we herein inform users that the personal data requested in our forms or that might be provided via our email addresses, based on unambiguous explicit consent, is included in our personal data files for which the UAB is the owner and responsible. Thus, when filling in any of the forms with the personal data requested and accepting its being sent or sending us an email with personal data, the user expressly authorizes and consents to the UAB processing and incorporating this personal data provided and all the data generated from the user's participation or use of the different products or services offered on this website, though this may be revoked but not with retroactive effects, and accepts the data processing terms set out below.

Likewise, we inform users that all data shall be processed confidentially and in accordance with the data protection legislation in force, and that our files are legally registered in the Catalan Data Protection Agency's General Register.

The UAB accepts no responsibility for personal data processing on web pages that users access via the different links to be found on our website.

This website is regulated by the legislation exclusively applicable to Spain, to which users of this website, whether in Spain or abroad, shall be subject.

2. Uses

The data requested are adequate, pertinent and strictly necessary for the ends for which they are collected, as sending news through email given or recognize in future visits. They shall never be used for an end other than that for which they have been ceded and, under no circumstances, shall the user be obliged to provide us with them. Nonetheless, they are absolutely necessary for the development of the services offered.

Unless specifically stipulated otherwise, all the fields on all the forms need to be filled in. Users must fill in the forms with true, accurate, complete and up-to-date information. The user is solely responsible for any damage or prejudice, whether direct or indirect, that may affect the UAB or any third party due to filling in forms with false, inaccurate, incomplete, outdated or third-party information.

Our website obtains users' personal data by receiving different forms or emails to manage subscriptions to our journal or, where applicable, due to participation as an author, editor or reviewer, based on unambiguous explicit consent.

The UAB reserves the right to decide to incorporate, or not, these people's data into its files.

3. Users' Right to Access, Rectify and Cancel Personal Data

Those involved in editing this journal seek to be compliant with industry standards for data privacy, including the European Union’s General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) provision for “data subject rights” that include (a) breach notification; (b) right of access; (c) the right to be forgotten; (d) data portability; and (e) privacy by design. The GDPR also allows for the recognition of “the public interest in the availability of the data,” which has a particular saliency for those involved in maintaining, with the greatest integrity possible, the public record of scholarly publishing.

The user has the right to request cancellation of the subscription, access the information held in the UAB's files, declared at Data Protection Register of Catalonia, rectify erroneous information, cancel it or oppose its processing, in the terms established by the Law. To do so, they must email

Authors' requests for cancellation of data shall not affect their articles published on the website, in line with authors' unlimited cession of copyright to the UAB.

If you do not expressly cancel your personal data from our files, we shall assume you are still interested in remaining on file while this remains appropriate for the ends for which they were obtained and while the UAB deems appropriate.

4. Security

The UAB, in response to the trust placed in us and taking into account the importance of protection and confidentiality of users' personal data, hereby informs you that we have adopted all the technical and organizational measures to safeguard security as required by the European Union’s General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) in force on security of files containing personal data.

5. Cession of Data

We inform you that your data are processed confidentially and used for the ends indicated, and only communicated in the cases covered by the legislation and to bodies who, alongside the UAB, produce the journal, as shown on the website, and manage and collaborate in the journal's publication.

Personal metadata related with a published article (name and surname, profesional affiliation, ORCID number, country) are deposited and distributed, associated with an article, in order to assign a DOI through Crossreff.

The UAB provides users different recommendation options, which are the sole responsibility of the person sending the message. The UAB accepts no responsibility for the sending of unsolicited commercial mailings. Under no circumstances do we keep the recipient's email address. Likewise, batch sending of messages by users via these options is strictly prohibited, as is any commercial use.

6. Cookies

The UAB communicates to users, through this notice, that it uses cookies when the user accesses the different screens and pages that make up the site. The cookies used by the UAB are stored on the user's hard drive, but cannot read data contained thereon nor read the cookies created by other providers. The UAB uses cookies in order to recognize users who have registered and so as to offer them a better, more personalized service (the user's preferred language, etc.). They are also used to obtain completely anonymous information about access data (date, hour, minute, frequency, etc.), so as to be able to measure certain traffic parameters for the website itself and calculate the number of visits made, so that the UAB can focus and adjust the services offered most effectively. Despite this, the user may stop the generation of cookies by using the corresponding option offered by their browser. In this case, the website shall remain operative, but without the advantages offered for personalization.

7. Mailings

In compliance with article 21 of the Law on Information Society and E-commerce Services, which prohibits commercial mailings unless they have been expressly authorized by the recipients in advance, we hereby inform you that by accepting the terms of use and data protection policy, you expressly authorize informative, commercial, advertising and promotional mailings to the address provided. Nonetheless, if you do not wish to receive our commercial mailings, you can request cancellation following the instructions given in each mailing.

8. Modifications of this Data Protection Policy

This data protection policy was established on 5 May 2018. The UAB reserves the right to modify its data protection policy in future in accordance with its own criteria or due to a change in the legislation, jurisprudence or business practices. If the UAB introduces any changes, the new text shall be published on this same page, where the user is provided with information on the data protection policy. In any case, the relationship with users shall be governed by the regulations in force at the precise moment when they access the website and, as a result, they must be read every time users provide their data via our website.
